Earthships
& Solar Survival Bioitechture
An Earthship is a home design--utilizing
recycled tires, aluminum cans & earth for construction materials,
that Mike Reynolds & his company have been building & perfecting
for the last 25 years. It is self-sufficient, getting power from
the sun, water from rain, and recycling its gray water and sewage.
The Earthship would be perfect for hurricane beleaguered Caribbean
Islands & Florida. These buildings are so heavy, & built
into the Earth, that they should to much better in wind storms.
Thanks to Mike Reynolds.

sound solutions.
Smart Growth & New Urban Development
(New Urbanism)
New Urbanism is designing for people,
not automobiles... Recreating the phenomenon of human social interaction.
One in every four American is obese. One reason may be the design
of our neighborhoods and cities.
Smart Growth
Online -
About Smart Growth - In communities across the nation, there is
a growing concern that current development patterns -- dominated
by what some call "sprawl" -- are no longer in the long-term
interest of our cities, existing suburbs, small towns, rural communities,
or wilderness areas. Though supportive of growth, communities are
questioning the economic costs of abandoning infrastructure in the
city, only to rebuild it further out. Spurring the smart growth
movement are demographic shifts, a strong environmental ethic, increased
fiscal concerns, and more nuanced views of growth. The result is
both a new demand and a new opportunity for smart growth.
